Aleph Zero Unveils Groundbreaking Ecosystem Updates
Zug, Switzerland, June 20th, 2024, Chainwire - Aleph Zero has made significant strides in its ecosystem with the introduction of two key advancements: the first-ever EVM-compatible ZK-Privacy Layer capable of producing zero-knowledge proofs in less than a second on everyday devices, and zkOS, a suite of products designed to seamlessly integrate on-chain privacy into various Web3 applications.
The Aleph Zero Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of its ZK-privacy EVM Layer 2 testnet, powered by Arbitrum Orbit on Gelato RaaS. This groundbreaking solution is the first of its kind to offer subsecond ZK proving times, revolutionizing the user experience by providing virtually instantaneous on-chain privacy.
In addition to this development, Aleph Zero has unveiled its ambitious plan to develop zkOS: a client-side, chain-agnostic zero-knowledge privacy system. zkOS aims to provide Privacy-as-a-Service (PaaS) through seamless app integrations on WASM and EVM-compatible networks. These initiatives not only expand Aleph Zero's ecosystem to a wider audience of EVM users but also mark the beginning of potential multichain growth.
With zkOS, users can now engage in private transactions and interact with dApps without compromising their data. This system enables the creation of high-throughput applications, including privacy-preserving DeFi apps, RWAs, AI solutions, and enterprise applications, making privacy technologies more accessible to a broader audience.
"Privacy remains a significant challenge, given its cost, complexity, and lack of economic incentives. With zkOS and the zk-privacy EVM Layer 2 by Aleph Zero, we aim to address these issues not only within our ecosystem but also within the broader Ethereum community through our collaboration with Arbitrum Orbit and the idOS network," said Antoni Zolciak, Co-founder of Aleph Zero.
Aleph Zero's Substrate-based WASM Layer 1 blockchain, which was launched in November 2021, offers developers subsecond finality, supports 170 validator nodes, and has over 40 external teams developing various applications. The Layer 1 will now serve as the Data Availability layer for the L2 EVM layer, its applications, and L3 appchains.
The new ZK-privacy EVM Layer 2 Developer Testnet is now live, welcoming builders and early adopters. Integration examples include Rarible, a leading NFT company, and a team working on innovative prediction markets, the details of which are yet to be disclosed. The Developer Mainnet release is scheduled for Q3 2024.
Aleph Zero EVM, a ZK-privacy Layer 2 rollup on Ethereum, is a result of the collaboration between Aleph Zero and Gelato, leveraging Arbitrum Anytrust DAC technology to create a fast, secure, and scalable execution environment. With block times as low as 250ms and near-instant transaction finality, the chain can process thousands of transactions per second, making it one of the fastest EVM chains available.
Luis Schliesske, Founder of Gelato, highlighted the advanced features of Aleph Zero EVM, stating, "Aleph Zero EVM utilizes Arbitrum Orbit's cutting-edge web3 scaling stack, along with developer tools to build the most advanced privacy-enhancing blockchain infrastructure on the market." He also emphasized the growing importance of privacy in 2024 and beyond.
The Aleph Zero EVM Layer 2 Developer Testnet offers a range of developer tools from Gelato and third-party infrastructure, such as oracles, block explorers, and multi-sig capabilities, making it a versatile platform for developers.
Aleph Zero's zkOS leverages the Halo2 with KZG commitment scheme for speed and a universally trusted setup. While it may require more developer effort compared to alternatives like Noir or Risc0, Aleph Zero's zkToolkit simplifies zkOS integration, ensuring high performance and ease of use across existing applications in both the Aleph Zero and Ethereum ecosystems.
Preliminary benchmarks indicate that zkOS zero-knowledge proofs can be executed in 600-800 ms on standard devices using browsers like Safari or Chrome.
Development Roadmap:
The EVM Testnet launch is the first step towards the Mainnet release scheduled for Q3 2024, enabling developers to deploy production-ready apps with optional privacy features.
