China’s Ministry of Commerce Issues Warning on U.S. Tariff Policies
China’s Ministry of Commerce issued a warning that the global economy could face severe consequences if U.S. tariff policies continue to escalate. The ministry criticized what it described as coercive trade tactics aimed at isolating China, arguing that such measures undermine fair economic principles and risk triggering systemic damage for all nations. It emphasized that a return to a trade environment dominated by power dynamics would ultimately harm every country.
This statement was released alongside Beijing’s condemnation of a reported U.S. campaign to pressure more than 70 countries to reduce trade with Chinese companies in exchange for relief from tariffs. China also warned it would not accept any agreement that compromises its national interests and pledged strong retaliation. Beijing characterized such U.S. strategies as ineffective and counterproductive.
