The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Nigeria has announced that new stakeholders have joined the blockchain steering committee, according to the Director-General, Malam Kashifu Inuwa. In order to ensure comprehensive representation from both the public and private sectors, new members have been incorporated into the committee. This move is part of the agency's effort to align the implementation of Nigeria's blockchain policy with its set goals and objectives.

The national blockchain policy was approved by the Nigerian government, as reported by Bitcoin.com News on May 3, 2023. Information Minister Isa Pantami stated that the policy was developed after consultations with 56 institutions and individuals during former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. The revamped committee was inaugurated by the head of NITDA on May 21, as mentioned in a report by Nairametrics. The implementation of blockchain technology is still in its preliminary stages, with many people unaware of its potential.

In explaining the decision to reconstitute the committee, Inuwa highlighted the need for full membership from both the public and private sectors to prevent any past occurrences. Despite the policy being a product of Buhari's government, Inuwa emphasized its alignment with the current Nigerian leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu's goal of empowering citizens and businesses with secure and inclusive digital solutions.
